You're all prepared to go research and apply to Universities but you look at your marks, everything looks decent, then you see your english mark and its not looking too well, you're below the 50s and basically failing, you're asking yourself, why do I need this? This course is the only factor eliminating your chances getting into universities, why is it so important to pass it? Well, in my own opinion, the course to me is more of a test than a course. It helps get you prepared for the next step, whether it being the real world or post-secondary. What I mean by that is, you're going to need to utilize some of the skills and tools you learn in order to successfully move onto the next level. University or even work projects require proper english formatting that is clear and understandable, such as Lab reports, summaries, write-ups and even emails, should be presented as the advanced university level expectation. So its not really an option if you think about it, you're going to have to step your english game up to continue on, to university that is. If you're not the best at English, its not the end of the world for you, there are many other things you could resort to, such as lowering to a college level, university is not meant for everyone. Another thing is, could also take an extra course or hire a tutor to help teach you and elaborate more to understand the course more. That is why I think Grade 12 University English is mandatory for university programs because they require a certain level of english communication and understanding. Great post! I completely agree. I believe that english is the one school course that is definitely needed for all areas of your life. I think you really hit it on the head when you said "So its not really an option if you think about it, you're going to have to step your english game up to continue on, to university that is." If you want to go to a university you are going to need courses that will properly prepare you for university level work. Being that you will need english skills in any program you choose it only makes sense that university english be mandatory. I think you made a lot of good points. Very well said!
